When tonight's episode of TLC's "My Big Fat American Gypsy Wedding" airs at 10 p.m., some of the faces may be familiar ones.

Local owner of Edge Salon and Spa, David Towles was happy to be a part of the preparations for the first wedding in Murphy Village to be aired on the show.

"Most of the American segments of the show have featured Romani gypsies, not Irish Travelers," said Towles, who admitted that he has been very happy to get to know residents in Murphy Village better and to help with many of the special events there - including the upcoming show.

The bride is Tamara Riley, who was not raised in Murphy Village, and the groom is Bill McKown, who did grow up in Murphy Village. Towles said the TLC crew followed the couple around for months.

"Tamara was in the North Augusta High School pageant one year, and I did her hair," said Towles, explaining how he got involved.

He said the show on Sunday should be quite different from the others in this reality series.

"They (Irish Travelers in Murphy Village) are socially quite different from the Travelers in England," Towles said.

As he understands the history, Irish Travelers were originally not "gypsies" but owned land.

"They were eventually displaced in England," said Towles, who noted that historically Irish Travelers were "well-thought of by Irish gentry ... They valued their work."

While the TV show was being filmed, Towles was asked what he thought of the local Irish Travelers. He mentioned they are "very religious, very protective of their children." He used terms like "loyal" and "faithful."

He and his staff were part of the filming over two days, doing makeup, spray-tanning, doing nails and hair - including touchups during the wedding.

"We had a great time getting to know each other," he said of the experience.

Towles said he hopes the "My Big Fat American Gypsy Wedding" producers will "sensitively portray the Irish Traveler community."

Referring to some past media coverage of the residents of Murphy Village, he added, "Hopefully, the show will give them a fair treatment."

While American society as a whole has changed drastically through the last few decades, "Travelers may just be stuck in a different time," he said.

Towles compared some of their traditions to other groups.

"The royal family has arranged marriages. ... When you look at their dress, think pageants. ... And the view of their marrying young: Well, 100 years ago, 18 was old for a bride."

Lola, a Latin American woman, met Eric, a world-famous billionaire, when she was only 17 and he was 32. Although she wanted to get married throughout their relationship, Eric, who claims like many Quebecois that he ?doesn?t believe in marriage,? refused.

When the separation occurred, Lola didn?t take it lying down. She decided to challenge Quebec?s law and ask for everything a married woman would have been entitled to. Her lawyers claimed that the provincial law discriminates against unmarried couples.

The first provincial court to hear the case saw it otherwise. In 2009, The Supreme Court of Quebec rejected Lola?s claim for $56,000 (Canadian) per month for herself and $50 million as a lump sum. Eric was already giving her $411,000 per year as child-support payments for their three kids.

Lola appealed that court?s decision, and in 2010, the appeals court of the province sided with her. That decision suggested that every other person in a de facto couple had the same rights as her, or the same obligations as Eric. In other words, it invalidated the province?s law that one de facto spouse never has to support another when they split up. Groups that defend single mothers and children?s rights applauded the ruling.

The Quebec government, however, was astounded. The provincial Justice Minister, Jean-Marc Fournier, declared that the appeal court decision would harm the individual?s right to choose what kind of matrimonial state they want for themselves. The Quebec government has appealed the decision to the Supreme Court of Canada, which will rule on it by July.

The sums of money involved make Eric and Lola?s case somewhat absurd to the average Canadian. But it could shape the lives of the 1.2 million Quebecois in de facto couples, making them as good as married, even though neither of them exchanged rings or asked the other person?s permission to spend their lives together.

Jeffrey Neely, the man responsible for planning the General Services Administration's lavish conference in Las Vegas ? which led to a federal investigation and the resignation of the agency's director ? and four other GSA employees are out of jobs, agency officials told NBC News on Thursday.

Neely, commissioner of the GSA's regional public building office for the southwestern U.S., had been on administrative leave pending an inspector general's review of the agency's Western Regions Conference in 2010, but he had still been collecting a paycheck from the GSA until Thursday.

"As of today, he's no longer employed with GSA," said Adam Elkington, the GSA's deputy press secretary.

Elkington wouldn't say whether Neely left on his own or was pushed out, but Federal Times, a newspaper devoted to coverage of the federal government, reported that he had retired.

A GSA official told NBC News that four other employees had also left the agency. Those employees weren't identified, but the GSA was known to have been seeking the ousters of nine agency workers in all. The official said?Neely has been asked to reimburse the agency for a private in-room party in his hotel suite that he held during the conference.

Neely invoked his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination last month at a hearing of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, which is also looking into the conference.

The conference cost taxpayers almost $823,000 and featured exorbitant extras such as?commemorative coins, a mind reader and a bicycle building workshop. ?

Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., chairman of the Oversight Committee, said Neely's departure isn't the end of the story.

"The problems at GSA may far exceed his involvement in the waste of taxpayer dollars that has outraged Americans," Issa said in a statement. "The committee will continue to examine GSA's culture of wasteful spending."

Rep. John Mica, R-Fla., chairman of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, objected to Neely's having remained on the GSA's payroll for?weeks. He said he planned to introduce legislation that would allow the "immediate termination of senior level executives who violate their oaths of office by refusing to cooperate with congressional investigations or to testify before Congress."

Martha Johnson resigned as head of the GSA last month as pressure on the agency grew to explain the extravagant conference, which was chronicled in a YouTube video titled "Federal Worker, American Idle," in which GSA employees joked about their lavish expenditures and lack of productivity:

This video, titled "Federal Worker, American Idle," won an award at the General Services Administration's Las Vegas conference, which cost taxpayers nearly $823,000.

Johnson put Neely on leave on March 19, but she didn't resign and discipline other top agency officials until the GSA's inspector general?released a report April 2 documenting the lavish spending.

The deadline has been extended until May 31 for entering the Community Church of Poway?s Chapel Art Contest. The art contest is part of the chapel?s 125th birthday and recent renovation, which will be celebrated with a picnic on June 23. Tickets, $12 and $15, are now available.

Art depicting the chapel can be in all art media: charcoal, crayon, watercolor, oil, pen and ink, pastels and printed digital art (no discs). There are no entry fees.
